Study-in-Dubai.aliffoverseasjpg.jpg

Tertiary enrolment in the UAE continues to rise as a direct result of its population boom and growing status as a destination of choice for overseas students seeking quality international higher education. According to an industry study, the UAE will need around 42,000 additional seats by 2020 to accommodate the expected influx of learners from all over the world.

In the last decade, the UAE has transformed itself into Asia’s top education hub and one of the globe’s important destinations of learning. Dubai is home to a number of well-respected international universities and renowned higher academic institutions with best-in-class and diverse science, technology, and engineering courses, to name a few. Students from the region and around the world are coming to the country to enrol in globally recognized academic programs in these premier institutions.

Managing Director, Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) and Dubai Knowledge Park (DKP), said: “The competitiveness of UAE universities has excelled over the years due in part to the tremendous focus of the country’s wise leaders on high-quality education in line with UAE Vision 2021. The UAE provides young and mature learners alike with unprecedented access to top-notch courses being offered by esteemed international universities operating here.

“The diversity of Dubai students is clear proof of the country’s popularity among a wide range of local, regional and international learners. According to a research released by the Parthenon Group, the transnational student market in Dubai is, in fact, one of the fastest growing sectors, which has expanded at a rate of 15 percent and enjoyed a revenue worth $148 million (Dhs544.3 million) over the past years. We are confident that this growth will continue as international interest remains high.”

In terms of education, the Emirates is enjoying unrivalled advantages and a competitive edge. Many academic institutions here boast of quality education and diverse in-demand courses, in addition to well-trained faculty members and state-of-the-art, technology-centric learning methods and facilities. More importantly, the local education sector offers exciting and all-encompassing scholarship opportunities.

Russia

As the world’s largest country, it’s hardly surprising that Russia is home to so many universities — 950 of them, to be exact. What may come as a surprise? How many of its higher education institutions offer world-class, globally recognized educational opportunities. Russia now participates in the Bologna Process, and many of its premier universities are members of the European Universities Association. A whopping 22 Russian universities, meanwhile, earned spots on the QS World University Rankings 2016-2017.

Russia recently earned a plum spot on Bloomberg’s roundup of the world’s most innovative economies, but its innovative spirit is not limited to the financial sector. A Russian education uniquely fuses traditional academic rigors with a commitment to innovation in the form of competency-based education across a breadth and depth of areas of study. And while we’d be lying if we didn’t say that studying in Russia was demanding, a degree from a Russian institution is highly prized by the world’s employers — making it well worth the effort.

Study abroad: When Is The Right Time To Plan Abroad Education?

students_globe

The parents or students should ideally start planning about higher education from Class 9 onwards. Do a full research of the university/ course you are planning to pursue

While most state board examinations are over by now, students must be thinking about getting admissions in various colleges. However, keeping the high cut-offs in mind, students should think about their backup plans. Many must have given a thought to study abroad. However, Indian students often underestimate the amount of time it takes to apply to foreign universities, especially the United States. You can avoid common pitfalls and stress by having a plan in advance.

Students and families will need sufficient time to thoroughly research the institution and/or programme that will best serve your academic and professional goals. Then you must meet the application deadlines of the universities to which you apply, which may be up to 10-11 months before the beginning of the school year.

Remember schools with highly competitive admissions, the application process takes a significant amount of time and effort. You will need to write personal statements and request recommendations from teachers or others who know you well. Even if you are applying online via the common application, you will want to get started early.

University websites and other academic Internet sites may provide quick and convenient access to the required application forms, but you still need time to research your options, contact teachers and institutions to provide recommendations and transcripts, and sign up for required entrance exams in time to meet application deadlines.

Broadly speaking, we recommend the following based on what grade the student is.
Class 9: Time to get started. Get a general exposure to the college admissions process and what college admissions officers look for, goal-setting, assessment of strengths and interests, high school course selection, 10th-grade curricular planning, summer activity options, standardised testing.

Class 10: Halfway there. A deeper review of the college application process explores how colleges assess application components including grades, rigour, testing, activities, recommendation letters and essays. Begin an extracurricular resume. Check in on academic and extracurricular activities. Discuss summer activity options, 11th-grade curricular planning, standardised testing plans, college suggestions and the college research process. Also, review your family’s finances to determine affordability and potential scholarship opportunities.

Class 11: Almost there. Set academic and extracurricular goals for the year and create a standardised test strategy. Begin college research, visits and selection. Receive a personalised and balanced list of suggested schools created by a college counsellor. Discuss application strategy, pursue teacher recommendations, and keep tabs on academic and extracurricular performance and summer activities. Complete pre-essay writing self-assessment activities, begin college essays and select courses for the 12th grade.

Class 12: Homestretch. Finalise the individualised college selection list, review application deadlines and requirements, and develop a strategic plan and completion agenda. Continue standardised test strategy, finalise college applications, resume, essays and interview preparation. Finally — submit those applications.

While this article focuses primarily on the Undergraduate Admissions Process, if you are planning on doing an M.S or an M.B.A., it is advised to give yourself at least 18-24 months to prepare and apply for an M.S. program and 24-36 months for an M.B.A. program at a top global college.

Here Are 7 Ways Studying Abroad Can Help You Become An Entrepreneur

There is no better time than today to launch your startup dream. The Indian startup ecosystem is bustling with energy and promise. However, before you jump onboard the startup enterprise, do you want to polish your skills, build a strong network and equip yourself with the framework to deal with the challenges of running a business? If entrepreneurship is your way forward, you will significantly benefit from an educational programme in an international school.

Why consider overseas education before launching your startup company. Here are seven fascinating reasons why you must go for Study Abroad if you are looking to become a successful businessperson.

You may be technically savvy, but are you business savvy?

Have you thought of how you will grow beyond your geography?

As marketplaces have converged, geographical boundaries have diffused. Today, the entrepreneur is not limited to the local markets, but they can spread far and wide, using real-time technologies and marketing systems. A professional course on Business Management or Entrepreneurship will take care of the gaps in your education.

Also, while studying abroad, you get to interact with a diverse set of people from far-flung corners of the world. You can tap into this network through relationship building during your study period. Engage with the student alumni, share your experiences and knowledge on a larger exchange platform and gain a wealth of connections to network your way into broader markets.

Entrepreneurship needs strong leadership and team skills. Are you prepared?

One of the biggest challenges for an entrepreneur is managing a team. While your company is small, you can run a one-individual show for a while. However, as business imperatives grow, you will need to hire more talent. Most entrepreneurs who lack a basic understanding of workplace dynamics find themselves on the back foot. With a sound entrepreneurship course abroad, you can build on leadership and team building skills.

What’s more, you will also get hands-on experience of managing teams while studying abroad. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to lead or co-work in a team. Also, working with a team of international students, who add their own personal and cultural dynamics to the team, is an enriching and evergreen education. You understand the importance of communication, interpersonal relationship, and talent leveraging.

Can’t see the woods for the trees? You need to develop a global overview

Business leaders need to move with the agility of a leopard and the predatory instincts of a shark. An entrepreneur is always exploring new avenues for business. As business dynamics change, market preferences evolve, and competitors get more aggressive, the entrepreneur also has to accommodate the change. To stay on top of the game, you have to constantly think beyond the immediate problems at hand.

If you consider a foreign education in business or entrepreneurship, you will develop a global perspective while studying abroad. Instead of thinking horizontally or laterally, you will learn to approach a problem through multiple dimensions. A well thought out decision can save you time and money, which are crucial assets for every startup. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you will gain tremendously with an international education.

Learn entrepreneurship specific skills on a multi-cultural platform

For every budding entrepreneur, this insight from a foreign education abroad can be a very valuable resource, especially when you have to make decisions that are beyond the curriculum. A foreign educational programme takes care of this need. You are automatically guaranteed a multi-cultural learning platform as soon as you sign up for an international course.

Pick nuggets of wisdom from mentors and successful founders of the world

Not only will you get to learn from the best educators of the world, you can also attend workshops, seminars, and guest lectures from celebrity business leaders, founders, and CEOs of top companies when studying abroad. Interacting with the best brains of the world will broaden your thinking, and give you a holistic understanding of the entrepreneurial journey.

What’s Plan-B, if entrepreneurship does not work?

Studying abroad, whether business management or entrepreneurship, equips you with many hard and soft skills which will help develop you into a strong leader. However, let me leave you with a caveat — if your project is time-sensitive and a one or two-year gap will dilute the value of your brand positioning, there is no better time than right now! Business trends wait for nobody, and you will be hard-pressed to find the right opportunity again. A business education does create better entrepreneurs, but it cannot recreate a lost opportunity.

Applying for scholarships to study abroad? Quick Guide

scholarship_applicationGetting a degree from a foreign educational institution can open up lucrative global career opportunities for deserving Indian students by giving them the kind of holistic education that is hard to access in India. However, the financial burden of studying abroad is prohibitive, especially if one opts for leading universities in developed countries. The high costs associated with day-to-day expenses and the tuition fees make scholarships the best way to afford such an education for many Indian students. But finding the right scholarship to suit your specific needs can often be a difficult and intimidating task.

SO HERE ARE QUICK TIPS THAT CAN HELP YOU IDENTIFY THE MOST VIABLE SCHOLARSHIP FOR YOUR REQUIREMENTS:

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Scholarships or financial aid can be received either from the university you’re applying to or from a foundation that has such funding programs. In many cases, such opportunities aren’t as well advertised as they should be. Finding out which scholarship and which institution is the best match for you, given your interests, achievements, and academic record requires you to research for them in detail. This can help you in finding the right scholarship for a quality overseas education that you deeply desire.

MAKE YOUR SELECTION

After reviewing all the potential opportunities, you should filter through them based on your interests. Try to select across a spectrum of choices: one should be aspirational, a great scholarship to the best university in the world, that you know might be difficult to get; one should be a safe bet. This ensures that at the end of this process, you haven’t either settled for too little or aimed for too much with nothing to bank upon.

INTERVIEWS AND APPLICATIONS

There are few (if any) instances where there is a separate examination or interview for a scholarship. Most students have to follow the basic application protocol, and the scholarships are generally handed out on the basis of previous academic credentials and essays. Even in instances where there are specific scholarship interviews — usually when a public or private foundation is providing generic aid for students looking to study a specific course or in a specific country — the interviewers are looking to evaluate the same aspects of a candidate as in generic admission interviews. Make sure you brush up on your subject knowledge and prepare to answer questions that test your confidence, that ask why it should be you and not someone else getting the scholarship, and what your future aims and goals in life are. Base your answers to these questions on the background information about the scholarship, which will likely inform you as to what the foundation or institution is looking for in terms of ideal candidates.

MAKE YOUR CALENDAR

If you are applying for a number of different scholarships or grants, as well as applying for the study abroad program itself, it can be difficult to keep track of all the different deadlines and application requirements. This may seem obvious, but make a calendar specific to your study abroad scholarship applications, with each deadline clearly marked. Staying organized is crucial when applying for more than one scholarship (or even just one!).

GO TO THE EXPERTS

With the continued growth in the number of Indian students looking for foreign education, many institutions have come up to help students write out their applications. With their expertise, knowledge, and experience, these institutions often provide the insights and information that can mean the difference between being rejected and getting the scholarship. There is no reason to let ego play a role — these experts have helped write more applications and understand the systems far better than you do. Look around to find the right institution for you, given your background and interests, as well as where you’re planning to apply. These experts can help you strategically plan your application and can provide coaching for interviews that can help boost your confidence.

Applying for education abroad is often perceived as the sole privilege of the rich in India, who can afford the expense of foreign education.

However, with a large number of scholarships and with Indian students being seen as a great resource, many foreign universities are making it much easier for Indian students to gain access to their courses through scholarships.

Don’t let this opportunity go by — at the very least, consider the wonders of being educated abroad, along with all the opportunities it will bring to experience a new culture and a new perspective on education.

Study Culinary in ICCA Dubai & get Global Placement for 2 years*. ICCA Dubai hopes to sponsor 52 chefs.

The International Centre for Culinary Arts Dubai (ICCA Dubai) hopes to increase the number of young chefs it offers a culinary scholarship to, as part of its AED 1 Million Continuing Education Award.

The centre recently hosted the graduation program of 24 young chefs who were selected to be part of the AED 1 Million Continuing Education Award – the first of its kind annual 100% Culinary Scholarship Programme by ICCA Dubai.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cuthbert said: “We are here to celebrate the 24 young people who have worked for the last 52 weeks to complete a certification which brings hope and gives them an opportunity to change their lives.

“In this market, we talk about succession planning, so it fills me with great pride to be involved with something like this.”

He said the program will continue next year, and Micheel and ICCA Dubai director and CEO Sunjeh Raja revealed that they hope to double the number of chefs taking the program in its second iteration to 52.

The idea for the program was born a decade ago, but it was only in 2014 when both Raja and Micheel were able to realize their dream.

“When Sunjeh was in the old school in Satwa, I said the school was too expensive. It was great but those who really need schools cannot afford them. My dream was to get an education for the guys who have no money to pay for this,” he said.

Raja approached Micheel two years ago saying the infrastructure was in place, and after planning out logistics with Cuthbert, the program was launched in collaboration with Emirates Culinary Guild (ECG), WorldChefs and the City & Guilds London.

“It is great to be here and to see what they have achieved – it’s fantastic. I’m motivated to go double next year,” added Micheel, who said chefs in the UAE who gave their time to train the young students every week is why the program was a success.

4 Study Abroad Options for Engineering That Are As Good As IITs In 2018

Board Examinations are around the corner. Schools across the country are already getting busy with pre-board examinations and rushing through with the last minute revisions and tips. Along with the board examinations, it is the time for entrance examinations for getting through the state and national technical institutes. It is the hope of making into the famed Indian Institutes of Technology, IITs that have lakhs of students lining up for JEE Main examination and then the JEE Advanced 2018. However, there are only limited seats in the IITs. While many students had started to opt for private engineering college, the trend has reversed over the past few years. Seeking quality knowledge over a degree, many students are exploring study abroad options. Here is a look at top 4 destinations for pursuing engineering degrees from abroad which are as good as IITs, some even better.

When we talk technology or engineering, Germany is a world leader. There is a reason why the biggest names in engineering prefer students who have graduated in Germany. And there is that added advantage of no tuition fee – that is right. Germany has public universities that rank high in their technical education. The top Technical Universities in Germany, are in fact, sought after by most of the engineering graduates across the world. If it is engineering, then Germany is the country to be in. There are two big concerns, however, for students planning to pursue engineering degree right after their Class 12 boards from Germany.

a. There are very few and limited undergraduate engineering courses that are taught in English. Most of the UG courses in engineering are taught in German and would require you to be proficient in the language.

b. Students from India would have to clear JEE Advanced to be eligible to apply for a German University right after their Class 12th board examinations. There are other ways about it as well but require extended periods of study. Students can check the eligibility criteria from the DAAD website. Applications for Germany start in the month of January or February and close towards the end of May.

The United States of America

Pick any international ranking. American Universities often ranks amongst the top countries for technical education. And while it is expensive for the most part, there are excellent scholarship options for students. Also, students can always apply to public or state universities for an associate degree before shifting to a more famous private university for their advanced degree in engineering. Things students planning to explore the USA as a study option for engineering should know is that in the USA, a student has to enrol in a Bachelor of Science Degree. The subject would be called engineering but the degree would not be B.Tech or B.E. Students, however, should note that not every university in the USA is better than one in India. Also, USA is a very far off destination and candidates must consider everything. Also, Universities required Indian students to have appeared in the SAT or ACT tests along with an English Language Test like TOEFL.

Applications for US Universities start in the month of September and go on until about end of May for undergraduate courses. For top universities, however, the applications close by February and it is recommended to apply at the earliest.

Singapore

When the list of Universities that top the list for Engineering or Technical Education is compiled, A word of caution though, getting through to these top universities for their science programs may be tougher than getting into IITs. They are strictly on first come first serve, with extensive emphasis on academic excellence. There is no real need for writing an examination but SATs are preferred. Also, the visa process for Singapore is among the simplest of all the countries listed here.

Singapore is also the Asian campus of many international universities of Australia and USA. Students also have an option of applying to the Diploma courses in the country. The advantage of the diploma courses is that candidates would be able to transfer the credits after a year or two into a degree program. The applications for Singapore start in October and go on until March of next year.

Canada

There is more to Canada than its proximity to the United States of America. The Universities in Canada have recognized the world over for their research-oriented academia. Some of the universities are ranked higher than the Indian counterparts. Getting admission to Canadian universities is not very easy but not very tough either. The easy immigration and visa policies, the excellent Indian diaspora makes it a most favourable country for Indian students planning to study abroad. It is cheaper than the USA, easier and accessible. So if you are determined to get your engineering from abroad, Canada could be a country to look at.

So, if you are pursuing physics, chemistry, and mathematics in India in your class 12, the world is full of options. Scholarship options are available for meritorious students and money should not be a constraint.

Universities abroad seek holistically developed individuals, so you’re going to need a lot more than just good test scores and recommendations. You will need to start building your profile from a young age by pursuing your strengths and interests.

study abroad programs are becoming increasingly attractive as more and more college students seek meaningful ways to spend college breaks or explore a true diversity of cultures. As a result, not only has a great international program become more expensive but also a lot more competitive to get accepted into.

First and foremost step–Talk to parents, teachers, current students abroad as well as alumni to evaluate if you would be interested in studying abroad. Contact an education consultant who is looking into study abroad applications to understand what’s best for you, how you should plan your timeline of standardized tests and applications to colleges abroad. Remember to study hard for your standardized tests (SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS among others) and register well in advance. Plan your test dates well so you have time to retake if required.

It is important to build your student profile with project work, summer internships, extra-curricular activities and volunteer work. If you know the industry you’re looking to get into, network with people in this industry to understand job trends and skill set required to enter the industry as it well helps you in selecting programs and schools for applications.

Shortlist universities with your education consultant and carefully evaluate the available options criteria such as offered programs, rankings, location, campus life, eligibility, scholarship and financial aid opportunities.

Some destinations like the US and the UK are well known to international students but the picture is changing and new study abroad destinations are making headway.

While researching for a college, it is imperative that you do not make rankings your foremost criterion. You need to get started early and make the official college website your Bible. Spend time in figuring out how the information you have garnered from websites/ brochures becomes significant to your academic goals and personal growth.

Keep these 5 things in mind

Know why the country/university is in news
In times of geopolitical changes like today, it is also essential to keep an eye on the study abroad destination and review its economic state, political events such as elections, university budget cuts and hiring trends across the industry. It is very important to have a good clarity around why you want to study abroad.

Money matters
Once you have made up your mind on studying abroad or giving a shot at the opportunity, it is always good to have an idea on how much are you willing to spend on education. Over last 10-15 years, the cost of education in many countries has increased. However, the budget should not be the only criteria dictating where to apply.

Make a list
The next important thing is to create a shortlist of colleges based on your interests, profile, grades, test scores etc. A good counselor should be able to guide and help you in the shortlist process, as there are thousands of colleges and options, and not all colleges and programs are equal. Key is to get a good list of aspirational colleges, good colleges where you have a healthy chance and a few backup colleges. You will also have to see which colleges match your study program and may even offer your financial aid. College location, reputation, environment, and placement play an important role.
